Bachelor of Information Systems (IS)
UCSC admits students for two internal degree programmes in the field of Computer Science (CS) and Information Systems (IS). These two degree programmes are formulated to focus on two different market segments in the IT industry.
The IS Programme previously called Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is designed to produce a new kind of IT professional to fill the gap between business requirements and technical solutions. The IS degree Programme is designed to produce this new breed of IT professionals referred to as Business Analysts. Business Analyst is someone who interprets business rules and requirements for technical systems. The curriculum of this programme also emphasizes the importance of soft skills such as communication and teamwork.
Students entering the IS stream will obtain a 3 year Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS) or a 4 year Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Engineering (BSc (ISE)).
80 students will be admitted to the IS stream of which 20 would be chosen for the BSc (ISE) at the end of year 2 based on their performance and preference.
Prerequeists:
(i) Candidates should have obtained a Credit Pass (C) in at least TWO of the following subjects offered at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination: Higher Mathematics; Mathematics / Combined Mathematics; Physics; Chemistry; Accounting; Business Statistics; Economics; Business Studies; Biology; Elements of Political Science; Logic & Scientific Method; Geography; Civil Technology; Mechanical Technology; Electrical, Electronic and Information Technology; Information and Communication Technology;
(ii) Have at least a Credit Pass (C) in English at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination
(iii) Have at least a Credit Pass (C) in Mathematics I (or II) at the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination.
