After serving the maximum of two three-year terms in office as Director of the UCSC, Dr. Ruvan Weerasinghe relinquished office on Saturday 22nd May 2010. He was first appointed to that position on the 23rd of May 2004 upon the retirement of its Founding Director Prof. V. K. Samaranayake. At the end of his first term, Dr. Weerasinghe was re-appointed to serve another term which ended last Saturday.
Prof. Gihan Wikramanayake was the Deputy Director of the UCSC during the first term of Dr. Weerasinghe and also for a part of the second before he went overseas on Sabbatical leave. Upon his return, Prof. Wikramanayake has continued as an active member of the UCSC's Faculty. Prof. Wikramanayake played the role of the Academic Coordinator of the flagship Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree programme of the UCSC and also brings with him his many years of experience including in computer societies such as the BCS Sri Lanka Section where he is the current Chairman.
